Red Ribbon week is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against substance abuse. Show your personal commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of the Red Ribbon, October 23rd – 31st. You can demonstrate that you are against drugs by participating in the following ways, on the following days:

Monday, we will kick-off red ribbon week by establishing our support and wearing red. Tuesday, you will be able to “put a cap on drugs” by wearing baseball caps. Wednesday, we are declaring war on drugs and exhibiting our support by wearing camo gear. Thursday, we will testify that we are not going to let drugs steal our future by wearing our favorite college teams’ gear. Finally, we will wrap up the week on Friday where we will all be superheroes and flaunt this by wearing a superhero shirt or outfit (that is within the school dress code). This is what we can do to show our support, but what is it that we are really supporting?

The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered DEA agent Kiki Camarena in 1985. This began the continuing tradition of displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment towards the creation of a DRUG-FREE AMERICA. By wearing our designated attire, we are demonstrating our opposition to drugs. We may each only be one person but we, like Camarena can make a difference.

What difference can one decision make? We all have one decision, one vote, one voice. The Power of One has often dictated the course of history. One decision can make a difference between a lifelong success or a tragedy. We all have potential to change our lives, and those around us, maybe even the world! In the presentation by motivationalpro.com on Monday, we learned even more about the Power of One.

Students and employees of New Braunfels Middle School began the 2012-13 school year in the new three-story, 198,000-square-foot facility. A dedication ceremony was held at New Braunfels Middle School October 7, 2012 4:00 pm. There were tours of the campus provided after a short ceremony.

NBHS JROTC Marine Corp provided the Color Guard. Members of the NBMS choir, steel band, cheerleaders and dance team performed. NJHS President Parker Rivers spoke along with Principal Jana Cervantes and Superintendent Randy Moczygemba.

The new middle school was built on district land located off Klein Road at 4150 Klein Meadow Drive. The district broke ground on this amazing project in January 2011 and it took around 18 months to finish the project. Funds for the project were allocated by a $45 million bond referendum passed by NBISD voters in November 2010.

Mrs Casonʼs Theater classes will be presenting Romeo and Juliet on November sixth through eighth in our new outdoor amphitheater. “Our outdoor amphitheater is the perfect setting for Romeo and Juliet” said Mrs. Cason. Ask your teacher to sign up and bring your class.

For 2nd period, Romeo is Cody Duffin, and Juliet is Kay-lee Haumpry.

For 3rd period, Romeo is Cameron Cabello, and for Juliet is Cody Johnson.

For 4th period, Romeo is Alec Amandez, and the Juliet will be Maribel Silva.

For 5th period, Romeo is Zach Yaws, and the Juliet is Skyler Putska.

For 6th period, Romeo is Hunter Hudson, and Juliet is Daisy Flores.

For 7th period, Romeo is Andrew Valdez, and Juliet is Elise Johnson.

“Everyone may think that Romeo and Juliet is strictly a romantic story; but it’s not really what you think it’s going to be” said Mrs. Cason. This tragedy, originally written by William Shakespeare, is about a pair of star-crossed lovers that take their lives, because of their parents hate for each other. There is romance, there are fights, and there are death… a little something for everyone.

New Braunfels Middle School eighth grader Hemma Uzoh was the recent winner of the state essay contest of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. The essay contest is one of the premier projects of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Each year hundreds of students from throughout the state compete. Essays are judged at the local and district level before advancing to state competition. Hemma’s essay was submitted by the Austin’s Ranging Company Chapter, DRT, of New Braunfels. Hemma and her parents were guests at the DRT Historical Banquet in Austin in May. She read her essay to the assembled 360 DRT members and guests. The keynote speaker was Jerry Patterson, Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office. She is pictured with DRT president Carol Scheele and her mother Brijida Castro. She was recently honored by the New Braunfels ISD Board of Trustees for her accomplishment. Way to go Hemma!
